The soft drinks category accounted for 24% of retailer visits to wholesalers and cash and carry depots in 2018, making it the single largest category driver of traffic, according to a report from Britvic.
Rachel Phillips, out of home commercial director for Britvic, said: “The future is bright when it comes to soft drinks sales in wholesale and cash and carry depots. Despite the ongoing impact of the levy and the consultation on energy drinks, 35% of retailers expect sales to grow.
“We’ve also seen that shopping trips that include soft drinks tend to be more valuable to cash and carry outlets, demonstrating the importance of getting the aisle absolutely spot-on to encourage maximum sales,” she added.
The report also shows that the foodservice category delivered £2.7bn in total value sales last year, which was a 2.5% increase on the previous year.
