15 Minute With…the managing director at North West Wholesale

Tom Lumsden is the managing director of North West Wholesale

What was your first-ever job?

For my first job, I used to wash cars. I would ride around on my push bike with a bucket and an old T-shirt and charge £1.50 per car.

How would your colleagues at North West Wholesale describe you?
I think my colleagues would describe me as relatively laid back most of the time, apart from around the end of the month when we are at our busiest and things tend to get a little hectic.

If you could turn any activity into an Olympic sport that would give you a chance of winning a medal, what would it be?

Eating. I am pretty good at that, as are most of my colleagues. Between us I reckon we would definitely have a chance at winning a medal.

If time and money were not an issue, what hobby would you most like to get into?

I’d love to get into skydiving. I’ve only done it once, but I could definitely get hooked on the buzz and adrenaline of the whole experience.

What would your perfect day involve?

I would sail far out to sea on a lovely hot day to go fishing on a boat, with absolutely no phone signal or outside influences.

What is your song of choice at karaoke?

I quite like rock, so would have to go with Thunderstruck by AC/DC.

Who would be your four ideal dinner party guests?

Heston Blumenthal would be the first, so he could cook the dinner. I would also invite Guy Martin so we could talk about motorbikes and anything to do with engines.

The third guest would be my grandad. I never got to meet him, and I’ve heard he was a bit of a legend. Last, but not least, my wife, because if she reads this and she’s not on it, she’ll shoot me.

What would you cook them?

I wouldn’t, I’d get Heston Blumenthal to cook.

What fad or trend would you like to see make a comeback?

I’m not sure if it’s a fad or trend, but I’d like to see the old Budweiser TV adverts make a comeback – I remember finding them hilarious.

If you were a superhero, what would you choose as your superpower?

I would love to be to be able to fly. Not only would it be great, I’d also save a fair bit of money on holiday flights.

What do you wish you knew more about?

Brexit. I wish I knew more about that, as it seems a lot of people are still unsure as to how it’s going to affect us.

When was the last time you changed your belief or opinion about something major?

I rarely change my opinion or belief. However, the Brexit saga has changed my belief in the UK government.
