United Wholesale Grocers’ operating profit was down by 31.94% to £7.20m for the year ending 31 December 2021, with the Scottish wholesaler putting this down to the promotional discounts offered to customers and an increase in operating costs.
Its gross profit also decreased by £16.15m with the company citing lower margin rates due to the continues review of the pricing and promotional strategy as the reasoning for this drop. However, turnover increased by 2.48% to 221.32m and cash generation rose by £17.86m compared to £16.94m the previous year.

Founded by Mohammad Ramzan in 1977, the company began life as one-man counter grocery store in Maryhill. Over the past century under the stewardship of his sons Nabeel & Amaan, the organisation has grown i and now employs over 180 people.
