Spanish foods wholesaler Mevalco has reported 6% growth for the past 12 months, with turnover now approaching £10m following an increase in its presence in the fine dining and retail sectors.

Managing director David Menendez (pictured) explained that 2024 was a tough year for the majority of restaurants and hotel groups, with 2025 looking equally challenging with the new national insurance and minimum wage thresholds set to further impact the hospitality industries.

“However, we have been pleased with the results of 2024 which has been driven by offering value and innovation in our product ranges and investing in our people,” said Menendez. “We have brought more than 80 new products to market and through working closely with our valued Spanish suppliers have looked to help our customers re-energise and refresh their menu offer at affordable prices to continue to attract custom.

“By doing so, we have engaged with more businesses and driven growth through volume in the bottom line. Consumers want value and they want quality – both of which we are pleased to supply in abundance,” he added.

From its base in Bristol, Mevalco supplies establishments across the UK and is seeing a growing foothold in retail markets as Spanish produce increases in popularity and demand.
