Victoria Garton is HR & training advisor at wholesaler Parfetts, and the recent recipient of an FWD Skills & Development Awards prize.
BW: What was your first ever job?
VG: While I was at college studying Spanish and travel & tourism, I worked part-time at a local retail outlet. My first full-time position was when I was 18 – I was a member of the cabin crew for First Choice Airways.
BW: What would your perfect day involve?
I am in a great place in my career and I love my job. But I would like more hours in the day to be more creative. A perfect day out would be spending time with my mad but lovable family and Milo and Millie, our two Westies.
BW: How would your colleagues at Parfetts describe you?
I would like to think they’d say I’m approachable and that I’m always smiling. I’d hope I have a reputation of getting the work done, and that they’re not fooled by my smile. When it comes down to it, I mean business.
BW: If time and money were not an issue, what hobby would you most like to take up?
If I had the time, money and physical ability, I’d love to become an excellent dancer. I tap-dance in my spare time, but I’m no expert.
BW: What’s your song of choice at karaoke?
I don’t do karaoke – I’m tone deaf!
BW: Who would be your four ideal dinner party guests?
This Morning’s Philip Schofield and Holly Willoughby, as they have a great sense of humour. And Freddie Mercury from Queen, as he’s my music idol. I would also have to invite my mum…
BW: What would you cook them?
I wouldn’t! My mum would be my VIP guest and head chef.
BW: What fad or trend would you like to see make a comeback?
I’m all for embracing something new and exciting, so let’s move forwards, not backwards.
BW: If you were a superhero, what would you choose as your superpower?
I am divided between being able to fly and having the ability to move objects with my mind – telekinesis.
BW: What do you wish you knew more about?
I would love to have a random fact to suit every situation and to be great at the general knowledge section of a quiz.
BW: When was the last time you changed your belief or opinion about something major?
I’m a strong believer in equality for all, but after listening to a very inspirational speech from Unilever’s Hazel Detsiny at the Women in Wholesale event in April, I also believe that there should be a strong push for more women in more senior positions in all sectors.
To steal Hazel’s fact – there are actually more men called David on the boards of the FTSE 100 companies than there are women in these positions.
