United Wholesale (Scotland) [UWS] is upping its game on the on-trade front, after creating a new division dedicated to engineering sales success in this area.
The new division at UWS will be headed up by Mike Howard, who joins the business next month. He has 20 years’ experience in the beers, wines and spirits category, and joins UWS from Interbev.
Hiring Howard comes on the back of a two-year period in which UWS has made some key new hires to take the business to the next level, including operations director Bernie Brandsma, who spent 15 years running a chain of eight Metcash cash & carry sites in South Africa.
UWS managing director, Asim Sarwar, said: “The on-trade represents a new and exciting opportunity for our business, and I would ask all suppliers to work with Anshu Chandra, trading director, and Mike to help us develop this new venture.”
The business operates out of three cash & carry sites in Scotland – two in Glasgow, and one in Falkirk – and has also been trialling a delivered wholesale service. UWS posted a turnover figure of £234m last year, an increase of £8m on the previous year.
